Crime of Harassment

If you have been accused, charged or arrested for the crime of harassment, you are believed to have knowingly threatened to cause bodily harm to another person, to cause physical damage to another's property, to subject the person to confinement against their will, or maliciously do any other act intended to substantially harm the person with respect to their mental health and well-being. Additionanally, it would be alleged that by words or conduct, you have placed the person threatened in reasonable fear that the threat will be carried out.

In Washington, if you are convicted of a gross misdemeanor such as harassment, you could face penalties of up to a year in jail and pay fines up to $5,000. Additionally, a person convicted of harassment may be requried under statute to give a DNA sample per court order upon conviction. Harassment may be charged as a felony if the conduct alleged includes allegations of threats to kill, or the person harassed is working within the criminaul justice system at the time of the alleged harassment, among other reasons.
